Let's face it, we all watched a lot of TV during the coronavirus lock downs.  As 2020 comes to a close (thankfully), CNN.com has created a list of time capsule-worthy TV shows that kept us entertained while we hunkered down in our homes.  Analyst Brian Lowry's list highlights the bright spots in our pandemic TV watching with funny, inspiring, poignant, sad and sometimes disturbing stories.
                                                                               (Joe Exotic:Tiger King)
Lowry says, "Assembling a year-end TV list for 2020, the thought kept coming back to which programs most belonged in a time capsule to commemorate a very strange, eventful year and moment in history." Lowry adds that his list isn't about just the best shows and specials, but what shows qualified as being welcome distractions from Covid-19 and a crazy election year.  So, if you're looking for something to watch while we still spend a lot of time at home, check out Lowry's picks:
  • "The Plot Against America" (HBO)
  • "The Boys" (Amazon)
  • "The Last Dance" (ESPN)
  •  NBA Playoffs (ESPN)
  • "The Mandalorian" (Disney+)
  • "Tiger King" (Netflix)
  • "Between the World and Me" (HBO)
  • "Coastal Elites" (HBO)
  • "The Queen's Gambit" (Netflix)
  • "Mrs. America" (FX/Hulu)
  • "Lovecraft Country" (HBO)
  • "Raised by Wolves" (HBO Max)
  • "Little America" (Apple TV+)
  • "Small Axe" (Amazon)
  • The Emmys (ABC)
Lowry says, “Award shows (the Emmys) are seldom memorable, but this telecast was, symbolizing the challenge of celebrating the year’s best in TV while creatively acknowledging the strangeness and limits associated with doing so during a pandemic.” Hopefully, there will be no need to time capsule TV shows in 2021. Here's to a happy, healthy New Year to all and a fresh crop of distractions.
